Our internal landscape influences our surface appearance. Nourishing our bodies with a full spectrum diet can help resolve many of the issues that appear on our largest organ, our skin.
Eat the Rainbow.
Want brighter skin? Eat BRIGHTER colors!
Dark greens, Berries, Beets, Strawberries, Bright Yellow Peppers, and Orange Squash are all rich in bioflavonoids and anti-oxidants to protect and nourish your body and skin.
Generally, the more color, the more nutrients are in the plant. Antioxidants in vibrant colored plants help our bodies with their natural processes and to cope with our environment. Oxidative stress causes many of the visible signs of aging, give your body what it needs to balance itself and it will show in your skin.
If getting all the color you need in your diet seems daunting, try one of the superfood powders that I love:
Paradise Orac Energy Greens this unflavored powder is best mixed with citrus juice or in smoothies, we've used it for years and it's great! It includes 24 servings of fruits and veggies in each scoop, plus probiotics, prebiotics, chlorella, and spirulina.
GBX Superfood with natural berry flavor, which can be mixed with water and is still delicious. Contains excellent prebiotic, gut-protective ingredients, as well as stress reducing phytobiotics to boost mood. It is anti-oxidant rich and super supportive for creating beautiful skin.
Healthy Fats for Healthy Skin.
Craving moisture balance? Give your skin its natural moisturizer!
Avocado, Pasture Raised Eggs, Cold Pressed Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, and Oily Fish like Salmon are all great sources of healthy fat for healthy skin.
Skin LOVES healthy fats. Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are essential for healthy and well hydrated skin. They help build healthy, resilient cellular structure--which is key to aging with vitality. Including them in your diet will make a big difference in the quality of your skin and your overall health.

Fiber for Natural Detox.
Want CLEAR skin? Clear out the gut-clutter!
Celery, Brassicas, Sunchokes, and Psyllium Husk are all excellent sources of gut and skin-clearing fiber.
Fiber is our daily detox tool. Eating fibrous veggies like celery, prebiotics like sunchokes, or including whole grains in our diets are great ways to boost our skin’s ability to stay clear. Sometimes skin issues arise from hormonal imbalances. Psyllium and other fiber sources help eliminate excess hormones, as well as any toxins and waste products, through our bodies’ largest detoxification system–the digestive tract. Consuming enough fiber in our normal routine can be difficult, which is why I supplement my intake daily so I never have to guess if I’ve had enough. I love this tri-fiber powder. I drink mine in water with a splash of fresh Orange Juice. This is the frother I use to spin it up so I can gulp it down in the morning and know I set myself up for easy moves. The key to getting the best experience when supplementing with psyllium? That brings me to my next tip…

Hydrate Fully.
Looking to keep your plump, youthful looking skin? Don’t just drink water, eat your hydration too!
Cucumber, Watermelon, Citrus, and Coconut Water are all great sources of natural hydration.
I love my crystal infused water bottle, so I carry it all the time so I get my ounces in for the day. Another great way to hydrate is to eat veggies and fruit between meals. Cucumbers and watermelon are two easy and obvious choices to hydrate without adding empty calories and they provide more nutrients than drinking water alone.
Build Your Microbiome.
Needing solutions to annoying skin issues? Build a great foundation!
Yogurt, kimchi, fermented sauerkraut and probiotic beverages like Kombucha and Kefir are all rich in gut and skin-friendly probiotics.
One of the most powerful, and most overlooked, tools for luminous skin is cultivation and nourishment of our microbiome. A healthy gut biome is the foundation of all aspects of our health–physical, mental and even emotional. It is also the source of many of our skin’s health resources. Eating probiotic foods helps support our gut flora.
Most of us will need supplementation to get our guts to a healthy level of diversity. My favorite probiotic in a single product is this one, it combines probiotics with digestive enzymes and detoxifying herbs. Their Happy Juice Pack is also a great choice. If you’re looking to manage your weight naturally, this pack is a great choice too because you can combine all of these products for a better price.
